Scary Morning
We were fast asleep this morning at 4:00 when the doorbell woke us up. I said, "Roger, was that the doorbell?"
"Yes, but it is 4:00 in the morning. We're not answering."
We laid there for a little longer and it started ringing again - 3 times in a row without a pause between. While it was ringing, Roger jumped out of bed and threw on his robe. He flipped on the porch light and opened the front door. My heart was going a million miles a minute just imagining what might be on the other side of that door.
It was NOTHING! Which is almost worse than SOMETHING! Roger peered into the darkness and couldn't see a thing. I spent the next hour wide awake thinking of all the things it might be. I was truly terrified. My ears were completely tuned in to every noise for the rest of the night, trying to determine if I heard an intruder or just the cats.
I was still a bit jumpy this morning. Roger was teasing me about it, but I noticed when he left for work that he went around the house and checked the lock on the basement door. He also asked me to call Beth Ann this morning and let her know about it since she was showing our house at 8:00. We are assuming that it was some kind of electrical short in the doorbell. Maybe caused by the dampness in the air? Of course, it's never happened before, and it didn't happen again last night. It's altogether creepy. A creepiness that I just can't quite shake today. The cool foggy autumn morning and my general lack of sleep have only added to the weirdness.
